Cutting by muley sawand band saw

Both muley and band saws are suitable for cutting titanium.

Band saws are preferable because they enable a constant cutting speed to be maintained.

When cutting by saw, certain precautions must be taken in the same way as for other tasks:

    1. Use low cutting speed and gentle pressure on the blade.
    2. Use high-speed steel blades with 3-4 blade teethes per inch.
    3. Blades must cut at slower speed and pressure of the first cuts with a new blade (Half of normal). This will result in precise cut and lengthen the working life of the blades.
    4. Use plenty of lubrication. The use of sulphurized or chlorinated cutting oil lengthens the working life of the blades.
    5. Do not remove the pressure on the blade while the blade is running and in contact with the metal. This will cause self-hardening and damage the blades.
    6. Alloyed titanium, e.g. gr. 5, needs 2-2,5 times cutting time compared with grade 2.
    7. The saw needs to be cleaned often to remove off cut.
